I have been asked numerous times "How much does a logo cost?"
Normally I reply with an analogy about how you don't know how much a restaurant costs until you know what you want, what you're going to order or if you are adding on appies and drinks. So why would a creative project be any different.
What does a logo cost? It depends.
What is it worth to you?
If you get a logo for free from your friends brother that has microsoft paint or your daughters friend, maybe its free (yay right?), but what will it cost you? Common problems with 'home made' logos:
1. You may find part way down the road, the fancy fades, drop shadows and weird shape only looks good in full color on a computer screen. FAIL.
2. Or they used one of the classic dated fonts like Comic Sans or Papyrus, making it seem a little dated in todays' time.
3. Or they didn't vectorize it, they created it like a picture so it cannot be enlarged for a sign, or it's barely decipherable in a size fitting for a business card.
Why hire a professional?
A professional graphic designer will test a logo in multiple formats, online, in print, in large and small sizes. We know that there are cases when color cannot be used (newspaper ads sometimes) or it b
ecomes too complicated to have the design stitched on clothing.
We will provide a vectorized graphic, this means it will retain it's integrity at a larger size, and smaller.
We provide more than just a logo, a good designer will solve a communication question through a symbol, offer suggestions on how it can be used and provide you samples of how it may look in various formats.
The value behind the logo
We can consult with you on the whole package of branding your company and logo and how it can add additional value for you, your clients and your employees.
So if you love your friends' friends cousin, but love your company right, hiring a professional is the perfect start. This is the first impression, the face to match the personality of your business, you wouldnt ask your friend for a nose job because they are a makeup artist...
