Generally when building a website a client will ask about the keywords being used and then they will spout off single words that should be used as though there is still a boomer somewhere in a small town still thinking they are going to get the results they want with a single word, like 'shoes' or 'health'. I think its been about 20+ years since that was effective, yet we still get caught in our old thoughts.
Generative is here to change things, and if you have not already expanded your search to string keywords, ('orthopedic shoe store in Calgay') you are going to go even further as the new Generative AI cares about the INTENT of the search not the keywords.
Did you just gasp? Everything that we were focused on before seems to be out the window suddenly. Let's be fair, search as a whole has changed (that's for another blog) and its time search pretended to actually understand us as we have been feeding it for years and there's no surprise that the addition of AI it will get better.
Now, with Generative AI you can ask things like "How do I know when I should buy orthopedic shoes? and it will give you an answer as though it was a conversation with a neutral friend. Which, just like friends will also have a small margin of error but as I was reminded today, the internet has never been free of false info so should we feel any different with AI?
So how should you structure your website to show up on Google?
